A Week in the Basque Country

Just back from another trip to the Basque Country during our half-term break. We stayed in a big old farm house with lots an lots of friends. Apart from us and the florist and the landscape gardener and the neo-hoteliers and the dentist and the doctor and the teacher and the unionist and the school administrator, and the soon-to-be B&B landlady, the house was overun by a gaggle of excited children. During the day we hiked over hill and dale. Lunch was serrano ham and sheep's cheese. In the evening, magret was grilled in the massive hearth and much wine and hilarity flowed at a very long table.

For some reason most of my photographs seem to be of windows.

Nice photos. Those windows are like works of art.

I love the windows! And I wish I could have been there with you. It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I'm definitely jealous!

Ditto on the windows. And it sounds like a good time. I miss hiking over hill and dale.

Beautiful and peaceful countryside. I enjoyed the album on Flickr and the serrano ham, wine and sheep cheese must have been a treat!

The green bits with the sheep grazing look remarkably like Scotland. It sounds like a lot of fun, one of those holidays that stick in kids minds forever :-)

this is beginning to sound like one of those round robin Christmas letters ......

all good bloggers ought to warn their fans in advance if they are going to disappear like this ...........

as for the photos, all very boring, I looked desperately for a sign of human life, eg Z or E or even P
well I suppose there were two back views and a shadow

Aw Deborah, pourquoi tant de haine? This blog has sounded like a round robin from the very beginning. I'm going to put the people photos on Flickr later but you need a password to see them: luckily I've already given you one of those. Prepare to be overwhelmed by my children's beauty.

Thanks Lesley, good

Only jealousy I expect is making me leave snide comments around the place.

Another thing, am definitely nicer in the mornings than in the evenings, I wonder why .............

The snide comments pep things up, Deborah. When I leave comments on blogs in general I'm either too boring or way, way too mean. I can't seem to make the middle ground. I have to agree with Deborah though - apart from sheep there wasn't much sign of animal life ;-)

Aha... that was more like it. Beautiful kids. And windows. And sheep :-)

Well that cheered me up Sarah because I was busy thinking 'of all the miserable, mean, pathetic and negative comments to make ....'
However in the clear light of day what I really wanted to say was, why are the windows so small in the Basque country?

Confinement

Being confined indoors most of the day, just the four of us, is reminding me of the days when my children were wee and most of our weekends ...
